MCP agency for websites – connect your website to Claude and update the content with AI

Imagine typing "update all prices in all four languages" – and it happens. In seconds. Without opening a CMS. Without writing a single ticket.
That is not a vision of the future. It is what is possible today – for properly structured websites on the right platforms.
It is called agentic web development, and it is built on a protocol called MCP.
What is MCP and why does it matter for your website?
MCP is short for Model Context Protocol – an open protocol, originally launched by Anthropic, that lets AI tools such as Claude communicate directly with external systems. Databases, APIs, applications – and your website. Used with Claude, it is often simply called Claude MCP.
Without MCP, Claude can help you write a blog post that you then paste in manually. With MCP, Claude can publish the blog post directly. And update the ten other pages that mention the same product. And flag the metadata gaps it found along the way.
This is a paradigm shift in how web teams work.
Which website tools have MCP support today?
The ecosystem is moving extremely fast, so this list is a snapshot as of April 2026. More platforms are building MCP servers all the time to meet demand for AI-integrated workflows.
These are the most prominent platforms with confirmed MCP support:
- Webflow: Official npm server with direct access to pages, CMS content, components and styles.
- Sanity: Official hosted server (mcp.sanity.io). Agents can run GROQ queries, read/write documents and navigate schemas. Particularly strong for headless architectures with frameworks such as Next.js or Astro.
- Storyblok: Official server with structured access to the whole workspace for MCP-compatible clients.
- Contentful: Official server (available both hosted and open source). Full support for reading, writing and managing content models.
- Directus: Official server that connects AI agents directly to the Directus headless CMS.
- Wix: Official server via Wix Studio, with a primary focus on code assistance and API calls.
- Strapi: MCP support via an official plugin in the Strapi Marketplace.
- WordPress: Now has an official WordPress MCP Adapter (via the AI Building Blocks initiative). Using the WordPress "Abilities API", websites can now expose functions as MCP tools. It is a big step forward that lets WordPress compete with the more modern platforms.
The list grows every week – always check your platform's official documentation to see whether it offers an official MCP server or whether you need a community-built solution.
What the platforms that have come furthest clearly have in common is an API-first architecture. That is no coincidence: it is precisely that architecture that makes it easy to build secure, robust MCP bridges. That is why we continue to recommend platforms such as Webflow and Sanity for projects where AI-driven automation is a central part of the future strategy.
What can you actually do with MCP connected to your website?
Most people who hear about MCP think: "OK, handy for blog posts." That is roughly 10% of what it can actually do.
What is possible today:
- Bulk updates to copy – Change tone, pricing or messaging on 50 pages in minutes
- SEO audit with direct action – Identify metadata gaps, missing alt texts and broken links – and fix them in the same conversation
- CSS refactoring – Convert hard-coded styles to design variables systematically
- Building new pages – Describe the structure in text, let the agent build from existing components
- Multilingual scaling – Run content updates in parallel across all language versions
A traditional audit ends with "here is what is broken." An agentic audit ends with "here is what is fixed." That is the difference, and it is the foundation of how we package automations for marketing and content workflows.

Why do AI agents fail on most websites?
Here is the insight most MCP guides miss: MCP is technically simple to set up, but giving an agent access to your website does not guarantee a good result.
Most agents produce unreliable results – not because the agents are limited, but because the website was built for human visitors, not for machines. An agent faced with inconsistent naming, missing documentation and a chaotic structure will make mistakes. It is like putting a new freelancer to work without any onboarding.
Getting your website ready for AI is therefore not just a technical installation step. It is a strategic and architectural decision.
How do you get your website ready for AI development?
Best practice for AI readiness is exactly the same as best practice for making it easy for a new person to take over a project:
1. Consistent naming
Whatever the platform, the AI agent needs to understand the structure. In Webflow that means class names. In a headless CMS it means field names and content types. div-4 and field_2_new_v3 are unusable. hero__heading and product_description_long give the agent a map.
2. Design variables and tokens
Hard-coded styles stop the agent from making global changes. That applies whether you work with Webflow's CSS variables, Sanity schemas or tokens in a coded website.
3. A complete and consistent CMS structure
All fields should be filled in and have meaningful names. An agent that comes across empty metadata fields guesses – and often guesses wrong.
4. Internal documentation of the website architecture
A short text describing which sections exist, how components relate to each other and what is global vs. page-specific makes the agent dramatically more precise.
5. Semantic HTML structure
Clear heading hierarchies and well-structured components – whether you build in Webflow, Sanity with Next.js or plain code.
MCP with Webflow – one of the most mature implementations
In our judgement, Webflow is the website tool that has come furthest with MCP. The official server gives AI agents direct access to the Designer structure, the CMS collections and the styles.
In practice:
Step 1 – Activate Webflow's MCP server
Connect to Webflow's MCP server (mcp.webflow.com) and log in via OAuth. Full documentation is available from Webflow Developers.
Step 2 – Connect Claude Code
Add Webflow as an MCP server in your Claude Code configuration. Claude then recognises your website as an available resource in every conversation.
Step 3 – Start with read operations
Test with commands such as "list all pages missing a meta description" before you run write or publish operations.
Step 4 – Guardrails
It is often a good idea to ask Claude to summarise what it is going to do, and how, before you ask it to make changes to the website.
Making the technical connection takes less than an hour. The challenge is that the website has to be well structured to give good results – see the checklist above.
At SEOS Design we often recommend Webflow for websites owned by marketing departments. Read more about how we work in Webflow agency in Sweden.
MCP with a headless CMS and coded websites
In our judgement, Sanity is the headless CMS that has come furthest with MCP. The hosted server at mcp.sanity.io lets Claude run GROQ queries, write documents and navigate the schema without you having to explain the structure manually.
That makes the combination Sanity + Next.js (or SvelteKit, Nuxt, Astro) + Claude Code a powerful set-up for more complex websites: product catalogues, multilingual portals, enterprise websites with a complex data model. It is the architecture we use as a headless CMS agency when performance, scale or custom integrations matter most.
Coded websites without a CMS can also be connected via MCP if they expose an API or are built with a framework that supports the protocol. The difference compared with platforms that have built-in MCP is that the connection needs more configuration and the codebase has to be particularly well organised.
We have written a practical guide to building AI-native websites with Claude Code, Next.js and Sanity: Building a website with AI: Claude Code, Next.js and Sanity.
Agentic web development – what it means for your team
Agentic web development means that AI agents do not just assist human work – they carry out tasks on your website independently, based on instructions in natural language.
For a web team, that means:
- Web managers become workflow architects – less time on manual updates, more time on strategy and review
- The dev queue shrinks – the marketing team can ship content changes without waiting for a developer
- Scale without growing headcount – maintaining 50 websites does not take 50 times the resources
This is not about replacing skills. It is about putting them to the right use.
Which CMS and platform suit you depends on your website's complexity and your team's needs. We have compared the options in CMS for large and growing companies – Webflow, headless or enterprise?.
How can an MCP agency help you?
Whether you run Webflow, Sanity, Storyblok or a coded website, the challenge is the same: the connection is simple, but the structure decides the result.
We help clients with:
- MCP configuration – technical set-up whatever the platform
- AI readiness audit – a review of naming, structure, fields and documentation
- Refactoring – restructuring existing projects for machine readability
- Workflow design – which tasks the AI agent handles and which require human control

Common questions about MCP and websites
How do I update my website with AI?
Which website tools work with Claude via MCP?
As of April 2026, Webflow, Sanity, Storyblok, Contentful, Directus, Wix and WordPress, among others, have confirmed MCP support. More are being added all the time.
Do I need to be technical to use MCP?
Setting it up requires some technical understanding. The day-to-day work with the agent – instructing it, reviewing and approving changes – is done in natural language, without code.
What takes the most time and skill is the architecture behind the context the AI has about your website and your project; solid work here is what produces good output.
Can my existing website be connected to Claude, or do I have to rebuild it?
Most websites on MCP-compatible platforms can be connected without a rebuild. However, the structure often needs a review before the agent can deliver reliable results – an AI readiness audit shows clearly what is required.
What is the difference between MCP and automation via Zapier or Make?
Zapier and Make run predefined flows: "when X happens, do Y." MCP lets an AI agent reason and make decisions based on instructions. That is more flexible, but it requires a more carefully thought-out structure.
What does it cost to set up MCP for my website?
The MCP packages are open source and free. The cost lies in the configuration and the structural work needed for the website to work well with an agent. Get in touch for an assessment.
